Fair Game

The story I found the most interesting from this week's readings was Fair Game. Philip K. Dick does an excellent job of grasping the reader's attention with the supernatural theme. A mysterious eye that watches only over one man. This piques the interest of the reader. The first thought that came to my mind was that Anthony Douglas was crazy. Such a thing was simply a manifestation of his mind. What surprised me was that Douglas's colleagues actually believed him. Dick is simply playing with our emotions over here. Now we begin to think that Douglas does have a valid concern. However, the ending of the story is what astounded me. It's so utterly ridiculous that it's genius. Dick builds up the story to a point that the reader can't wait to see what happens. Will the alien creature catch Douglas? Will they use his knowledge for destructive purpose? No, instead they fry him and eat him. A mockery of human civilization.
